What is an olfactory pyramid?

In perfumery, we talk about top notes, middle notes and base notes. But what does this mean?

This is the olfactory pyramid of a perfume.

The top notes are the scents you will discover on your skin during the first few hours. These notes are fresher and more volatile. For example, there are citrus notes.

In the middle of the day, the heart notes take over. These notes are more persistent and form the very identity of the fragrance.

Then, at the end of the day, you can enjoy the base notes gently diffused over your skin. These notes are even more persistent and will help to retain the top and heart notes. We're thinking of woods, musks...

Let's take the example of our Hespérides Idylliques

Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin, Verbena

Heart notes:  Mimosa, Jasmine, Aquatic notes, Limoncello accord

Base notes :  Musks, Accord Calisson, Ambrox

We'll now let you discover how the notes evolve on your skin...

Poécile, Here begins your olfactory adventure.
